The Lives and Graves of Lowell Mill Girls Barilla Adeline Taylor and Louisa Maria Wells

Sunday, April 6, 2:00 p.m.

Save the Date for “The Lives and Graves of Lowell Mill Girls Barilla Adeline Taylor and Louisa Maria Wells,” a presentation by Bridget Marshall, UMass Lowell Professor of English, on Sunday, April 6, 2 p.m., at the Talbot Chapel.

Barilla Adeline Taylor (1828 – 1846,) and Louisa Maria Wells (1818 – 1886,) worked in this city’s textile mills and are buried in Lowell Cemetery. Their gravestones – one small and one large – suggest the very different trajectories of their lives. Prof. Marshall will introduce us to these two “mill girls” and consider how their lives and the events that followed led to such contrasting and significant memorials.

This program is offered in collaboration with the Lowell Historical Society. Admission is free but seating is limited. Please register for the event here.
